Elder (Firstborn #3) and GIVEAWAY!

Clara Kate is one of the eight beings needed to activate the Elder Scroll, an ancient artifact causing tragedy and darkness on the Estilorian plane. She knows that her focus needs to be on finding the final piece and stopping the evil Mercesti, but Ini-herit isn't making it easy.

He’s working closely with Clara Kate on the quest to stop their enemies…too close for her comfort. His presence serves as a constant reminder of the love they shared on the human plane, a love that he no longer remembers at all.

Her life and the lives of those she loves are at risk, and she knows she has to put aside her personal problems. So far on their journey, she's endured heartbreak, terror, pain and loss. She’s even been brought to the brink of death.

She thinks things can't get any worse.

She's wrong.

Review

Of course, like all who have fallen under the spell of the Estilorian Plain, I was a quite sad to start Elder, the conclusion to Firstborn Trilogy. However, I was equally excited as I wanted to see what fate awaited the characters I cherish. I was NOT disappointed! Elder holds all the action, adventure and romance that I have come to expect from the unbelievably talented Raine Thomas. She has seamlessly woven together a world that will have you seriously contemplating whether Raine knows something that we don’t. (Fingers crossed ;)

*Sigh*--- I wish that I could just sit here and tell you EVERY twist and turn that I adored about this book—Alas---that would also include me spoiling the book. (POUT) So, my description will have to be brief.

While I assumed that this book would focus mainly on Clara Kate and Ini-Herit (Which it did, in part) All of the family played a significant role in this final installment. I have to admit, I experienced a couple gut-wrenching moments as a result of hard-ships Clara Kate had to endure. She is such a strong female and I found my heartbreaking for her while she came to terms with the (apparent) permanent memory loss of her first love Harry. The strength Clara Kate exhibits during these trials are extraordinary and made me love her all the more. Ariana and Tiege are another couple I was glad to get closer with. Ariana is such a vital part of this captivating story. It was a joy to watch her discover herself, all the power and strength she holds after being victimized for so long by Erik. Sophie and Quincy remain the steadfast and self-sacrificing couple that I treasured from the beginning. I so envy Sophie’s kick-butt animal shifting!

Okay, so this is where I gush. Tate and Zachariah are hands down my favorite couple of this Trilogy. I know, I know… They are all so wonderful, but Tate and Zachariah burrowed their way into my heart and planted there. I cannot stress how amazing these two are together!! Their love is the ultimate opposites attract scenario combined with complete and utter redemption. I could seriously write 4 pages on this couple alone. Gahhhh! Go, Read, NOW!

What an extraordinary journey I have had the opportunity to live through Raine Thomas’ beloved Trilogies. She is an incredible author who has breathed life into the sometimes redundant genre of Young Adult literature. Raine has created a world that I fell head first into. I laughed, cheered, cried and fell deeply in love with the characters she brought to life, each one bursting with tangible personalities that make you love and hate with equal enthusiasm. I am so sad to see this series end, but look forward to rereading each Trilogy in the near future.

Envy: The Green Eyed Monster

They say that good friends stick by you in times of trouble…

But great friends applaud your successes and are genuinely thrilled for you when the going’s good.

I’m lucky in that I have a wide circle of friends who are there for me either way, but I also know people who act sympathetic when you’re down on your luck, but, boy, mention something is going really well and their tone changes. “Well, good for you.”

Envy is a big theme in Spellbound #2: Duplicity, thus the green cover. I knew I wanted Gray to wear a good luck amulet so I began researching specific kinds, which is how I came across the Evil Eye.

At first it looked kinda freaky, but it’s now one of my signature fashion statements. Many cultures believe that one malevolent look directed at a person for reasons of envy or dislike can cause injury or bad luck to the person to whom it’s directed. Wearing the evil eye is supposed to counter this envy.

I had to laugh when my mom mailed me an evil eye pendant. I was just about to mail her a bracelet. (I loved the giveaway one so much I bought an extra for her and myself.) The timing was perfect. I’d just had a hugely successful amazon promo run on Entangled and was about to release Duplicity.

The pamphlet that came with the pendant asks if you’ve run into some luck: “Worried that your “friends” and others are filled with envy about your good fortune?
Ward off evil glances and surround yourself with good luck and positivity.”

You, too, can protect yourself from the green eyed monster with a blue eyed luck amulet by entering the Spellbound Swap Package below.

Thank you to Jessica for being an enthusiastic supporter of indie authors. I’m overwhelmed by the genuine goodwill among so many book bloggers. May your lives be filled with many successes and true friends with whom to celebrate.

Review:

<---I think this picture sums-up my feelings about this book.

Seriously guys, this book is beyond amazing. I really had no idea when I started it that I would be smiling days later just thinking about it. Don't let this cover fool you, it may not have a hot guy or a pretty girl in a flowing gown on it but it may well be one of the best books I read in 2012. Cornerstone is fresh, exciting and you will have no qualms about cheating yourself out of a couple extra hours of sleep just to finish it.

Poor Nalena is teased relentlessly at her high school. She is nicknamed "The Waste" by her peers due to the endless stacks of half written stories that her mother hoards around their home. "Hoard" being the keyword. We are not talking stacks here and there but floor to ceiling towers of sheets of paper filled will names, ages and little facts about random people (hence the cover). The majority of this single family's income is spent on storage for this outwardly insignificant information that Nalena's mother collects.

I found myself relating to the dynamic between Nalena and her mother. Though the relationship is strained, there is a love there that cannot be denied. As the story unfolds Nalena learns more regarding her mother's strange habits and these revelations will forever change Nalena's life.

While struggling with a strange mother and endless teasing at school Nalena catches the eye of Garrett, the school's most popular and attractive guy. The attraction between Garrett and Nalena is seemingly instant. However, deep-rooted insecurities that have plagued Nalena for years are making it hard for her to believe the attraction is mutual. I think that all ladies can relate to that on some level, I know I can.

Of course this tale has the paranormal aspect that we all know and love. I can't even pretend that I had any idea the twists this story was going to take but I was totally and completely intrigued as this never-before-seen world unfolded in the pages. I am begging, that's right, BEGGING you guys to read this book. If it were possible I would buy you all a copy. No Joke, it is that good. Alas, I am far too poor to attempt that. However I am rich enough to giveaway 3 e-copies of Cornerstone to three lucky winners! See the Rafflecopter below.
